MALAGA AIRPORT INFORMATION
Malaga Airport is 8 km west of the city of Malaga and is the main flight path for million people arriving on the Costa del Sol each year. The airport is next to the main A7 coast road that links to the AP7 Autopista del Sol motorway for Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Marbella and Gibraltar to the west and Malaga, Nerja, Granada to the east.
With flight connections to more than 60 worldwide destinations, around 12 million passengers pass through the airport each year.
Most of the traffic handled by the airport is from the European Union. London-Gatwick is the destination with the greatest number of passengers, followed by Manchester, Dublin, London-Luton, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Brussels.
Malaga Airport also has scheduled flights to the rest of Spain, most significantly to Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca.
Malaga Airport is undergoing a major infrastructure modernisation process, both in the terminal area and on the airfield, as part of "Plan Malaga". The new terminal should be operational early in 2010 and the new runway at the end of the year or early 2011.
In 2009, it handled 11,622,443 passengers, 103,536 flight operations and 3,400 tonnes of cargo.
There is a wide selection of bars and restaurants, bank cash points, postal and Internet services for passengers, pharmacy and a children's play area.
